Buenos Aires, Jan 6 (NA) – In the fight against inflation, the government has extended tax benefits for importing goods from four key sectors until June 30, as announced by the Tax Collection and Customs Agency (ARCA). The measure, published in the Official Gazette, exempts the payment of Income Tax and VAT on the import of basic basket foods, essential goods, medicines, and supplies for SMEs, according to the Argentine News Agency. This benefit is conditional upon the importer presenting a valid MiPyME certificate at the time of the transaction. In the first eleven months of the year, exports reached US$ 70.235 million, far exceeding the US$ 60.775 million of 2024. Although it faces criticism from some sectors for harming local industry by encouraging purchases abroad, the government states that this measure aims to use increased competition to lower the prices of key products in the basic consumer basket. As part of another initiative to boost imports, ARCA had already implemented a new administrative scheme that simplifies procedures, standardizes processes, and adapts the system to digital workflows (such as a form transitioning from print to online). This regulation benefits individuals purchasing new or used goods for personal consumption, without commercial or industrial purposes. The goal is to change how documentation is managed at Customs. Among the incentives to promote imports, experts mention the gradual liberalization of the foreign exchange market and the removal of most foreign trade barriers.
